“I have a dream that my four little children, will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Civil Rights have been the major focus of life since its inception, not only in USA but almost in every civilized society. Civil Rights is a privilege which if hampered, give rise to a grievance. Fundamental civil rights give the liberties like freedom of speech, press, media, religion, assembly, right to vote, right to bear arms, right of equality to go in public places and to petition the Government. It protects the individuals from superfluous government actions without any discrimination of color, caste, creed and religion.
Over the years, several civil rights acts have been passed to protect certain people groups against discrimination and provide them the same rights and opportunities as everyone else is enjoying in the same society. Civil Rights is a vast topic including Accommodations, Voting, Housing, Education, Disabilities, or dealing with any other discrimination that let others feel you do not belong to their civilization. Major civil rights complaints that reached to the courts are Discrimination based on gender, Religious Discrimination, Disability, People’s Physical Integrity, Injured Workers or Race/Color Discrimination.
Law makers are pondering over the point that Civil Rights won’t be breached but still the violation occurs. Unfair treatment does not necessarily involves a violation of civil rights; it is the discrimination when you have treated unfairly if you possess any of the characteristics (described already) that are protected by the constitution. If you feel that you were at the receiving end of any of the discrimination, you need to have a strong and competent lawyer at your side to defend your case.
Civil rights attorneys handle the cases involving breach of individuals’ rights that are legally protected like race, gender, disability, national origin, age, sexual orientation, and religion. These cases are quite difficult to tackle, so circumstantial evidences are required to prove that it was a case of discrimination. Mostly, the opponent tries hard to deny the fact that any such thing has happened. Be sure your chosen attorney is well aware of civil right constitution and all legislations, as the cases are quite difficult and require extra edge of skills and expertise.
