It is an established fact that you can’t run your business successfully without getting caught in some legal issues every now and then. Most entrepreneurs are wary of consulting lawyers or attorney just because of the long sessions and secondly because of their pricey bills. There is no way to avoid litigations when doing business; however there are ways to control your legal bills.

  1. First meet your attorney, describe your issue, decide what you want out of it and put forward your budget limit within which you want to operate. If it is not a big issue, just don’t drag it into court. It is far better to have a solution out of court.
  2. If there is no way out to sort other than the litigation, ask your attorney to define case in step wise process. Like what to do, how it will be preceded, how much time it will take, and how much it will cost. It is much better to ask your attorney to provide everything in written form.
  3. Define all steps for your easiness. Like what documents are required, when petitions will be filed in court and how much time is required for every step to be executed. This thing will breakdown the process and will allow you to eliminate any step and its cost. You can decide to have an alternative plan in this law suite or in future.
  4. Lawyers usually try to send you bills only when the amount is big enough. Ask them to send you invoices time to time, decide it should be weekly, monthly or quarterly based.
  5. Ask your lawyer to give you some discount if you pay your invoices in time, this discount will add several dollars in your bottom line at the end of year.
  6. Meet your lawyer regularly; like 5 to 10 minutes meeting in a month can help you to analyze several minor problems and your attorney will solve them out before they get a chance to grow bigger.
